This course applies to individuals who may be required to conduct local risk controls in the resources and infrastructure industries. The conduct local risk control unit equips participants with the knowledge and skills to safely identify hazards; assess risks and identify unacceptable risk; identify, assess and implement risk treatments, and complete records and reports.

Course Delivery

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Course Durations

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Refresher Face to Face contact time of at least 3 Hours
Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 4 Hours

An individual undertaking this course with Allens Training Pty Ltd will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry: 

  • Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course including the ability to read and interpret work health and safety (WHS) policies and procedures, legislation, regulations, documentation and work requirements; speak clearly and concisely with the team/ work group to identify unacceptable risk and determine, select and implement risk controls as well as calculate resource requirements including basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division   

  • Basic computer skills to complete workplace forms and reports 

  • The ability to monitor and minimise own exposure to worksite risks and hazards during activities 

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

This certificate does not require renewal

Performance tasks:

  • Identify unacceptable risk using the acceptability/ unacceptability criteria 

  • Work with others to determine risk controls 

  • Assess and determine the consequences and likelihood of potential risk 

  • Control risk by selecting and implementing the most appropriate controls 

  • Complete reports and records about the risk assessment and treatment implementation 

  • Monitor and minimise own exposure to worksite risks and hazards during activities 

Documentation – The student must complete all documentation according to the required standard:

  • Complete two (2) Job Safety Environmental Analysis (JSEA)/ Safe Work Methods Statement (SWMS) forms  
  • Complete two (2) local risk control case studies

Theory assessment -   A written assessment consisting of short-answer and multiple-choice questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.
