This course applies to individuals who may be required to conduct local risk controls in the resources and infrastructure industries. The conduct local risk control unit equips participants with the knowledge and skills to safely identify hazards; assess risks and identify unacceptable risk; identify, assess and implement risk treatments, and complete records and reports.

Course Delivery

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Course Durations

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Refresher Face to Face contact time of at least 3 Hours
Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 4 Hours

An individual undertaking this course with Allens Training Pty Ltd will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

  • An official form of photo identification (e.g., driver’s licence, passport, or student ID).
  • Protective footwear/ safety shoes and comfortable/ practical clothing must be provided by the student and worn during the practical sessions and assessment
  • Visual acuity to identify hazards
  • To successfully complete this course, students will need to demonstrate the following language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) skills during training and assessment:
    • Learning: Follow instructions, identify hazards, complete risk assessments, and ask for clarification when needed and monitors and minimises own exposure to worksite risks and hazards during activities
    • Reading: Read and interpret regulations, workplace procedures, signage, and operational instructions related to the scenarios provided and equipment use
    • Writing: Fill out forms, produces and completes documentation such as risk assessments), and clearly record key details
    • Oral communication: Communicate clearly and listen carefully when receiving or giving instructions, especially in team-based, noisy, or time-sensitive situations
    • Numeracy: Use numbers to support safe working operations, for example, calculating resource requirements, timing procedures, interpreting equipment ratings (e.g. weight limits).
    • Digital Literacy: Able to use a mobile phone or basic device to read messages, follow online instructions, complete online forms or access learning resources

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

This certificate does not require renewal

Documentation – The student must complete all documentation according to the required standard:

  • •    Two (2) Incident Reviews and Risk Controls

    •    Two (2) x JSEA/SWMS

Theory assessment -   A written assessment consisting of short-answer and multiple-choice questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.

Students are required to complete a self evaluation against the following core skills as part of the enrolment process. This will allow your trainer to understand any additional support that may be required during the course delivery and assessment.

Reading I can read signs, labels, or basic instructions to understand safety rules or warnings.
Writing I can write short notes or fill in simple forms to report hazards or record safety actions.
Oral Communication I can talk with others to share concerns or ask questions about how to do something safely.
Numeracy I can use numbers, times, or amounts to help me plan safe ways to do everyday activities.
